Puerto Rico Syllabus is a free online syllabus focused on the Puerto Rico debt crisis. I designed this website during the pandemic with an academic team from City University of New York.
The site is content-heavy with text and images comprising each syllabus unit. I picked a Wordpress template suited for editorial, and used web elements such as accordions to organize the content. For Spanish-speaking web visitors, I utilized a plugin that translates the syllabus content and other site pages to Spanish. I utilized images made available by the team and searched Creative Commons for header images and video topical to each unit. I also customized the events feature so the team could promote virtual and in-person events related to Puerto Rican studies.
When the site build was complete, I provided a training to the team for site content updates and documentation for basic troubleshooting.
It was a true privilege to work with this team, and to learn more closely about U.S. and Puerto Rican relations during this project.
